OCCTA Christmas Party

It's time for the annual OCCTA Christmas Party!  Join us in the Main Dining Room on Friday December 6th for an evening of fun.  Cocktail hour begins at 6:00 pm, followed by dinner at 7:00 pm.  Meal choices are Salmon, Pork, Chicken, or Vegetarian.  To reserve your spot, please call the Pro-Shop or email Jenny with your meal choice.  RSVP's must be made by December 1st.  The cost is $12 per OCCTA member or $24 per non- OCCTA club member.

After Thanksgiving Tennis Mixer

Our Thanksgiving Turkey Tennis Mixer has been rescheduled due to the inclement weather.  We will now be playing the After Thanksgiving Tennis Mixer on Friday November 29th from 9:30 am to Noon.  After a relaxing day at home with Turkey and Football, what better way to start of Black Friday than out on the tennis courts?  Call the Pro- Shop today to reserve your spot!  The cost is $15 per person or $10 per OCCTA member.  Friends and family are welcome to join the fun too!

Tennis Court Status

All 6 courts will be open and ready for play on Friday November 8th.  Court 6 still needs some additional work on it, but Joe has worked hard to get it playable for our membership!

Friday Night Tennis

Our beloved community has been through quite a lot this past week.  Words can’t express how sorry I am to those of you who have had damage to your homes and possessions.  Please join us Friday night so we can help put a little bit of fun back into your world!  The tennis will start at 7:00 pm, with food and drinks on the patio.  The cost is $12 per person and includes your tennis, hor d’oeuvres, (2) drinks, and prizes.  Happy hour prizes will be honored for all remaining drinks.  Please invite your non-tennis playing friends too, this is about fun and reconnecting with our great community.  To reserve your spot, please email Jenny or call the pro-shop at 512-291-8846.  Hope to see you on the courts Friday!

The 2013 Onion Creek Rally for the Cure benefiting Susan G Komen was a huge success!  Thank you to everyone who helped make it such a fun and productive day.  We were able to raise $3836 by everyone coming together for this great cause.  Way to go Onion Creek!

League Champion

Congratulations go out to Rob Marchese and Darren Amundson for winning the Summer/ Fall session of the Onion Creek Doubles League.  Way to go Rob and Darren!  The new session of league begins October 8 at 7:00 p.m.  Call the shop to reserve your spot in league.

Rally for the Cure

Rally for the Cure
Rally for the Cure^® is a grassroots program that works to spread awareness about breast health and breast cancer in support of Susan G. Komen for the Cure^®. Awareness is a crucial step in eliminating breast cancer forever. When detected early, the breast cancer survival rate is 98%.

Each Rally event works to educate women about breast health and serve as a reminder about the importance of annual screenings. Greater awareness and early detection result in more lives saved.

Join us Saturday October 26, 2013 for a fun, exciting day of activities to support Rally for the Cure, Susan G. Komen for the Cure and breast cancer awareness.

Sneaks and Cleats

Saturday September 22
Join Crisanto for a day of fun out on the tennis courts and out on the golf course!  The doubles round robin will begin at the tennis center at 9:00 am.  Followed by the Sunday Brunch/ Buffet at the Main Clubhouse (champaign included), with the golf scramble beginning at 1:30 p.m.  The cost is $45 per person and advanced sign up is required. 

2013 Davis Cup

Men's Monday Night Workout

Starting in August, every Monday is Men's Night!  All 3.0 and 3.5 men are invited to join Crisanto out on the clay courts from 6:00- 7:00 pm.  All drills will be 60 minutes of high intense live ball and point based play.  The cost is $15 per person ($10 OCCTA members).  Happy hour prices will be offered on all drinks until 8:00 pm. 

Yonex Adult Play Day

Friday August 9th 7:00- 9:30 pm
Join us for 2 hours of round robin play followed by 30 minutes of fun games to win some great prized from Yonex!  Light snacks will be offered and happy hour prices will be offered on all drinks.  The cost is $15 per person ($10 OCCTA).

2013 Davis Cup

September 6– 8, 2013

This year’s event will feature (6) countries battling against each other in a round robin team format to determine the 2013 Onion Creek Davis Cup Team Champions.  Space is limited in each of the divisions, reserve your spot today for you and your partner.  The cost is $100 for members and $125 for non-members.  This fee includes all of your tennis, food, player party, awards and player gift.

BYOB Tennis Mixer

Men's 3.5 Match

Come out and support our Men's 3.5 USTA team on Sunday June 2 at 4:00 p.m. at Onion Creek.  This is their last match of the season as they take on Westwood Country Club. 

Poweball Champions

What great attendance we had at yesterday's Powerball!  The "Pot" was at $120, with a 3 way tie for the money!  Congratulations to Julie Jones, Judy Fogg, and Betsy Quinn.  Mark your calendars for the next Powerball with Jones on June 28 from 7:00 pm- 10:00 pm. 

The New Onion Creek Clay Courts!

Good morning!  We are pleased to announce the wait is almost over!  The newly resurfaced clay courts will be completed and ready to play on Friday May 24^th!  Please remember to call and make your reservations in early, the courts may be reserved up to 14 days in advance. 

Just a few reminders to ensure our new courts stay as pristine as possible for all of our members to enjoy.  When you complete play, please brush the court and sweep the lines.  This is not just a courtesy to the next group playing, but also ensures the court playable stays consistent.  The courts will be closed daily from 12:00 pm- 2:00 pm for watering and maintenance.  If you would like to play on the clay courts during those times, please make a reservation in advance, and  we will adjust our watering schedule.  The courts will also be water daily in the evenings at 12:00 am.

Clay Court Update

Dear Members,

 

I am pleased to share an updated timeline for the resurface of our clay tennis courts.  Australian Courtworks is currently working on a hard court resurface at another facility in Austin, which has unfortunately been slightly delayed due to the recent inclement weather.  Once this project is completed, which we expect to take roughly 14 days, 80 tons of clay will be delivered and the repairs will start on our courts.  In the meantime we have started work on the irrigation system, and will begin preparing the site for the resurfacing.  The total project time once started will be   2-3 weeks, and based on this we have set a target date of June 1st to reopen the courts.  In addition to the obvious improvement on the playing surface, our upgraded courts will include new lines, nets, and net posts.

 

We appreciate everyone's patience and understand that the clay tennis courts offer a valuable amenity to many of our Members.  We look forward to providing each of you with a significantly upgraded experience very soon.

The Spring 2013 USTA seasons are over half way through!  Congratulations to everyone who is playing this season.  The Men's 65 and over Seniors team is currently in 1st place!  Way to go guys!  Please come out and support our teams this weekend.  The Women's 3.0 team plays at home on Saturday at Noon, followed by the Men's Senior team at 3:00.  The Men's 4.0 team will play at home on Sunday at 1:00. 

Clay Court News

Dear Members,

The full scope of our clay court repairs has been finalized and I am very pleased to announce that we will be making over a $55,000 investment in our program as we bring our courts to USTA standards. The repairs will include complete laser grading, new irrigation heads, new lines, posts, and nets, and of course new clay across the entire surface.  We expect the work to be completed within 5-7 weeks.  

We appreciate not only your patience, but also the passion and support that has been in evidence as we have been diligently working to resolve this situation.  With the investment being made in our courts, complemented by the improvements and growth in our tennis program that we've enjoyed under the guidance of our Director of Tennis, Jenny Gray, I am extremely excited about the future of tennis here at Onion Creek Club.

In fact, I look forward to personally joining you on the courts to experience the new, outstanding playing conditions that will be in evidence once this work is completed.

Race For Wine

Who will take home the good bottle of wine and who will take home the not so good bottle of wine?!  Find out Friday April 26 at the Race For Wine Tennis Mixer.  The fun starts at 6:30 with a 1-hour tennis drill, followed by 3 sets of doubles.  The winner of each court will take home the good bottle of wine, the 2nd place finisher will take home the cheaper bottle of wine.  The cost is $25 per person.  We are limiting sign ups to 16 players, reserve your spot today!

Ball Machine Club

Our new ball machine will be ready for use starting Tuesday April 16th!  We are currently registering members for the Ball Machine Club.  The cost is $15 a month for a family or $10 a month for an individual.    Please stop by the Tennis Pro Shop to fill out the paperwork today!  Here are some of the benefits to joining the Ball Machine Club:

• You can reserve the machine up to (3) days in advance
• You have access to the machine when desired
• You get unlimited use of the ball machine

The ball machine will be availabe to rent by any Onion Creek Tennis or Golf member for:

• $18- 90 minutes use for one person
• $15- 60 minutes use for one person
• $8- 30 minutes for one person

Reservations may be made (1) day in advance

 





Yonex Demo Day

Clay Court Update

Dear Members,

As most of you are well aware, the wind storm that hit Austin on Monday, February 25th caused substantial damage to our clay tennis courts, forcing us to close the courts until further notice.  Given the significant financial impact of the damage, for which our initial bids have reflected repair costs upwards of $45,000, it is imperative that we work through the appropriate channels to ensure that our insurance coverage is fully utilized.  Unfortunately this means that the process has not moved as hastily as we might like, however we are working diligently to resolve the situation as quickly as possible.  Concurrent with the insurance claim process, we continue to explore all options available to us to facilitate a speedy repair once the financial requirements become more clear.

 

As I have shared with many of you, I am excited about the direction of our tennis program and the growth that we have experienced over the past year.  Since Jenny Gray joined our team as the Director of Tennis nine months ago participation and activity have grown to levels that we have not seen in quite some time.  We understand that the tennis program is an important part of the Onion Creek Club experience, and we are committed to ensuring that the positive momentum continues.  In fact, I am pleased to share that we have ordered a new state-of-the-art ball machine that will arrive within the next few weeks.  The new ball machine will undoubtedly be a welcome addition, and will help us continue to improve the tennis experience.

Clay Court Update

We are working diligently with the insurance company to get the situation with the clay courts resolved.  The total cost for resurfacing both courts is $40,000, so for obvious reasons it is important that we go through the insurance company first and foremost.  Once we have a definitive answer from them, we will move forward with the resurfacing.  Thank you again for your patience!

Pickleball Cancelled

We have cancelled Pickleball today due to the inclement weather.  We will let you know when it has been rescheduled.

Onion Creek USTA Teams

Congratulations to the Ladies 3.0 USTA team who beat UT Whitaker on Saturday (3-2).  The ladies will play this Saturday March 2, at home, at 12:00 against Austin Tennis Center.  Come cheer them on!

The men's 3.5 team lost a close battle (2-3) to Westwood on Sunday.  The men get a nice break and will resume play on March 17 at the Polo Club.

The men's 4.0 team lost a tough match to Lakeway on Sunday.  The men will travel to Lakeway for their next match on March 17.

Clay Courts Closed

We had some damage to the clay courts from the high winds on Monday.  Unfortunately, they are not playable in their current condition.  The high winds created too many bald spots, making the courts unsafe.  I have been on the phone with Australian Courts Works, they are coming out on Wednesday or Thursday to evaluate them.  As soon as we get the courts back into safe playing condition, I will let know.  Thanks for your patience and sorry for the inconvenience. 

Adult Club Championships

March 16- 17, 2013
The Adult Club Championships are open to all members over the age of 18.  You can sign up for (1) event in Men's or Women's Singles AND (1) event in Men's or Women's Doubles.  We will be offering divisions of play in the 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, and Open levels.  If you have a USTA rating, you must play by your 2012 end of year rating or most recently published rating.  If you do not have a rating, please enter the level you believe you are at.  The cost is $23 per person for Singles and  $18 per person for Doubles.  Sign up today by filling out an entry form in the Pro-Shop or by emailing Jenny at jgray@onioncreekclub.com.  The deadline to enter is March 10, 2013.   

New Staff

Please welcome Joseph Wei and Jones Yen to the Onion Creek Tennis Staff.  Both Joseph and Jones will be working in the Pro Shop, please stop by and say hi to them!

• Joseph is from Plano, TX and is a freshman at the University of Texas, majoring in Business.  He is a 5.0 rated player and he is an active participant in both USTA and ITF tournaments.
• Jones is from Arlington, TX and is a freshman at the University of Texas, majoring in Business.  He is a 4.0 rated player and he plays on the UT Intramural Tennis Team.

Super Bowl Tennis Mixer

Who will win Super Bowl XLVII, the 49r's or the Ravens?  Help us decide out on the tennis courts!  Join us Friday February 1st from 7:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.  Email Jenny to sign up. 

Windscreens

New windscreens have been ordered this week to replace the badly damaged or missing windscreens on each of the courts.  As soon as they come in, we will get them hung.  Thank you for your patience with this process.  We strive daily to make Onion Creek Tennis a place you can be proud of!
